Whittle Wonders, North Leamington School’s entry to the F1 for Schools Competition, wins their Regional Heats.
Impetus Automotive recently donated £500 towards an engineering project at North Leamington School. The money, presented on December 6 by David Gorvett at Tournament Court, went towards the school’s entry in the national Formula One competition for schools.
Four Year 11 pupils from the school – Tom Bradford, team leader; Tom Govern, designer; Ryan McLaren, manufacturing engineer; and Harry Birch, testing engineer – accompanied by teacher Bob Hodge, pitched for the sponsorship as one of a number of qualifying activities for entry into the competition.
Since then the team has participated in the F1 in Schools 2014 central England regional competition, which took place on 22 January…
… and they did brilliantly, coming 1st place in the F1 class as well as wining fastest F1 car and winning the award for innovative thinking. This is a big improvement from the 2 previous times they have entered which bodes well for the National event as Tom Bradford explains: “We are all very excited to be going to the national competition in March which is taking place at the NEC in Birmingham. We are currently making preparations for the nationals and we are hopeful that we can win first place there and make it to the World Finals which are being held at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi.
“We would like to thank all those who sponsored us and helped us to win.”
